The wrestling world has lost a real gem. Mae Young died Tuesday at the age of 90. I always looked forward to seeing her at WrestleMania and whenever the WWE would bring us back for special shows. Mae wrestled with my mother many times, and always spoke fondly of her when we had a chance to chat. Mae always told me, “Your mom was a great worker, as good as most of the men!” My mother’s wrestling name was Helen Hild. Mom quit wrestling when she met my dad, Mike DiBiase. She died in 1984 at the age of 56.
Mae Young was perhaps, the last of the “old school” lady wrestlers. And make no mistake, she could wrestle with the best of them too! I can also guarantee you they’ve never made them tougher than Mae. Although she was as tough as they come, she was a real lady and will be greatly missed. God bless you Mae, and when you see my mom, tell her I send my love.
I genuinely hope that Mae gets the opportunity to tell my mom that I send my love. The truth is, I never had the opportunity to speak to Mae about her faith. I have no way of knowing if Mae believed in God or had a relationship with Jesus Christ. To be perfectly honest, I’m not sure my mother became a Christian. My grandmother says that she made a profession of faith on her death bed. I hope it was genuine.
You may be asking why I’m bringing this up. Well, I think it’s a good time to stop and look at your own life and answer this question. If I died today, where would I spend eternity? As much as I thought of Mae and as much as I loved my mother, if they died without asking Jesus Christ into their life, then they are not in heaven. The bible tells us in Romans 3:23 that “all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” It also tells us there is one mediator between God and man.
1Timothy 2:5-6 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. To be sure, one day we will all stand before God and be judged for, not only everything we’ve done, but every word that ever came out of our mouth! WOW! I know this, my only assurance that I can escape the judgment I deserve, is knowing I have placed my hope and faith in Jesus Christ. The “million dollar” question is, how about you, have you placed your faith in Him today? Where will you spend eternity???
